Of course true to some extend as it was beginning days of our new life and we tried to spend time for outing in off office hours and in addition to that put myself for some techie blog (www.orachat.com) ... " Hey Rupesh, so now your honey moon is over and back with blogs ? ? " No actually, some free time now...

Hey hey...I am waiting for her to come back from vacation :-) Shoooo meantime I will write something about my NRI life .....

NRI - How would you define it? Is it Non Resident Indian or Not Returning Indian? I am sure only an individual NRI knows what truly defines him or her. I would like to think of me as a Non Resident Indian. I would like to say I'll be glad to return to India anytime. It is home folks! Don't you agree? Thinking deeper though, my thoughts waver...

I am missing my country and I remember those days.. it is the childhood India I long for. The days when achan, amma and chechi were around, when Amma pack the lunch for school, when I was carefree with my friends... when we did not hesitate to eat from the street vendors, learnt to ride the broken rental bicycles, when we did not mind the heat of the day, the sweating afternoons, the frequent power failures, when we did not care for the fashionable clothes, new brand mobile phones, variety shoes..., when snow was only a dream and aircondition was a luxury, when we only relied on hand written letters for communications with far away family, when I was lean and never felt fat(evn not much now), when I was full of dreams for metropolitan cities, when I had no clue what marriage meant, what life is all about... those are the days I want to return to - that's the India my home!

Please do not get me wrong. I love UK!! After all it was my dream to get in to a good job, my earnest prayer, my sincere ambition to study my MBA in UK(still awaiting). I would have never felt I achieved anything in life if I had never had a chance to come to Bangalore and then to UK.

England - A beautiful beautiful place (yes, I intentionally used beautiful twice as I feel one word is not sufficient to fully define the beauty of this place - my wife always talk about beauty of the garden here) filled with natures bounty, picture perfect homes, manicured lawns, where everybody can enjoy the basic necessities of life, where all are treated equal (in most cases), where you don't have to bribe anyone for getting your drivers license or car registration or landing a job or finding a home, where water runs into your house (you don't have to go fetch water), hot water is only a 'twist of a tap' away, garbage is collected regularly, power failures are unheard of, numerous ways of communications with far and near & dear and not-so-dear ones, where you don't have to stand in sweating queues to pay your bills or to get the rations or to register your tickets, where the gap between the rich and poor is so narrow that it seems invisible, where the government truly cares to improve the life of a common citizen...

Then what is my rambling about you may wonder...because I am missing my country, I am missing my friends and I am missing those days ...

Friendship- my favorite word... Just thinking of this word brings so much happiness and meaning to life Friendships provide a sense of belonging and comfort.

Friendship is too good a word to explain. It has so much emotion attached to it. It is a relationship, which involves sharing mutual affection, esteem, care, and respect along with helping in times of need or crisis. A friend may know all about you and still love and care for you.

Every new friend brings a new meaning to life. The meaning you will know, only when that friend enters your life.

Good friends are always there to celebrate your success and give you a shoulder to lean on during your failures. Sometimes just sitting by a friend not speaking anything give such comfort that can never be expressed by words.

The most comforting thing about friendship is that you don't have to explain and the most beautiful thing about good friends is that they can grow separately without growing apart.

And at this time of the year when you need to file you tax returns, I would like you to make one more investment. Invest in friendship. Your returns will be better health, brighter outlook and a happier life.

FOOL !!

FOOL !!

Blue the colour of the day
Black the colour of the night
Hey how blameless your empathy
I foolishly fall into them
FOOL!! Just hope..A day will come for you..i consoled myself..a day will come..The white crows may not fly..but the earth is not flat, my all those who have gone away from me will reach here itself.. It's true that zero has no value. But at times, when placed in the right position it has a great value. I was too simple and open to admire all my friends and valued their friendship... I always learned all good things from them, I remember those nostalgic days, weekends in Bangalore one idiom always comes Woww !! what happened to me now ? The whole day i was trying to escape from those stupid thoughts..But now I think, it is not a good idea..I should think, think a lot..and take a good decision my "self" wont go away from me..I should listen to it..carefully. Nowadays I am trying to go away from it. But now i should listen to it. I turned on the light...I went to the mirror...I looked into it .It's been long since I looked into the mirror and talked to my reflection. It is true that a good friend is like a mirror. Now again, I have to depend on this mirror..Even though it has no blood and bones, sometimes,it is far better than the human beings.. listened to me..Started talking..At first i felt strange. But within half an hour i am able to build up our old friendship...expressed all my feelings..and it consoled me.

..the day we decided !!

..... from her Heart

I have rarely ever met a person like you
There is something so special,so special about you
Is it your helping nature or your creative mind?
I thought about this deeply, but the answer I cannot find

When God cannot come down in person to help mankind,
He sends a few angels to help the suffering mind,
You are one of those angels sent by Him here,
Who came down to hold my hand and bring cheer

It was friendship.. only friendship.. but a very strong one,
You were honest, dependable and so full of fun,
Before I could say something you understood it clearly,
All this laid a strong foundation for friendship silently!

When I saw you the first time.. Processions of richly caparisoned elephants accompanied by percussion ensembles from various neighbouring temples culminate at the Vadakumnathan temple. The most impressive processions are those Thriuvambadi Bhagavathy from the Thiruvambadi Sri Krishna Temple and the Paramekkavu Bhagavathi from Paramekkavu temple. The celebrations which last for over 36 hours includes parasol displays and firework shows.

You have so much to see and hear in the two days of the festival. Start with the Panchavaadyam of Madathil Varavu. The heat would be so unbearable, but you would ignore it when you hear the legendary artists performing right in front of you (by the way, if you want to hear the best Melam artists performing, come to Thrissur Pooram). You will see many foreigners on the road but don’t be surprised if one of them told you that they came from BBC or a French or American television channel to cover the program. If you did not want to miss the Paandi Melam of Paramekkavu, walk past the cheering crowd to the Sreemoolasthaanam of Vadakkumnathan Temple. Pause a bit on the way to listen to a team performing Naadaswaram. Enjoy the music a little and if you are thirsty, have a glass of sambhaaram from the near by houses or stalls that supply it for free. Rush along to hear the Paandi Melam and on the way collect all the goodies you get for free - the newspaper, butter milk, a paper cap or a handheld paper fan to beat the heat. Watch around while you walk, you would see some of the famous elephants in Kerala (or perhaps in the whole of India). You might just want to stop and see their elegant look with all the ornaments.

Rush inside the Vadakkumnathan temple after you are done listening to the Paandi Melam at Sreemoolasthaanam. The Elanji tree awaits you to treat with the famous Elanjithara Melam. Sway along with the crowd and their waving hands in the air, cheer at the peak of pleasure that only music can bring. Then head on towards the Thekke Nada to watch Kudamaattam. Keep your heads up in the air, while you watch the beautiful umbrella exchange, or else you may not be able to breathe properly among the lakhs of people around you. Give a smile at the TV cameras in the area, your friends or family watching numerous TV channels which broadcast Pooram live may get to see you on TV.

It is not time to leave yet. There is a grand firework ceremony in the early morning next day which is a very famous part of Thrissur Pooram. So you can either hop over to a cinema theater nearby to watch a Pooram special midnight show or check out the Pooram Exhibition. I would suggest that you take a walk in the Swaraj Round though. To smell the pooram. The smell of Pooram consists of the Panthams (cloth lanterns) lit in the night and of the aana piNdam. :-) You would also get to see many small Poorams entering in the temple throughout the night. So don’t even think of sleeping at night. In the early morning, open your eyes and ears for the grand fireworks ceremony .

You will hear comments like “isn’t it Paramekkavu Rajasekharan?“, “Thiruvambadi Kannan looks elegant!“) blah blah ...

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://sparkle-roops.blogspot.com/2009/05/thrissur-pooram-i-missed-it-again.html' title='Thrissur Pooram !!! While blaming on what I don't have, and what I have to achieve blah blah blah ...revealed that I have all flair to lead great life, I realized the happiness from those innocent faces, and the joy that they had with us. Kids were very happy to see planetarium, technical museum, more over their happiness, very enthusiastic to ask questions to understand things, lot of fun and games with those kids, so finally I could make one day busy for my society.

Another Awesome Onam !!! (Ormakal)

Another Onam approaches now, what I feel is that we are in a world that is totally different from what
it was yesterday. We belong to a generation that has passed by, and to the next generation Onam is totally different from what it was for us.
The celebrations started in those days with quarterly exams getting over and Onam holidays starting. All the kids would get up early in the morning and go hunting for flowers from the nearby houses! It was a hilarious, joyful time for us; it kept us in touch with nature, with the environment. We could identify the plants and name them, pluck them the previous day and keep them fresh overnight, without fridges, we could learn to match the different colors on the carpets. And we competed between them to make the most number of rounds, the best carpets.

Those were the days!
But today by switching on the TV, through the Onam visuals, we invite Maveli by spreading the floral carpet or letting out the traditional `Aarappu", or squatting before the tender green banana leaves. It is TV that reveals the facets of Onam to viewers, for many of whom it is a total surprise...

Today"s pookalams are designer-made, crafted from Thovala flowers of Tamil Nadu. Children have become separated from nature. Even Fun is sitting before the TV surfing channels, savoring the menu presented by the different channels.
The harvest festival turned as a market-centered, the time for discount sellers and loan sharks. Unless it is youth festivals or beauty contests no youth belonging to the MTV generation will ever want to be clothed in the traditional Malayali dress.

Today we don’t have trees in compounds or flats’s, so no swings for the women and children,
and beauty conscious woman are not ready for kaikottikali. Thalapanthu, parisamuttukali and other games for the men are passes in the era of cricket. Pulikkali and Boat races are for tourist extravaganza.
Preparation for Onam cuisine can be tedious, depriving them of precious TV watching time. People are made to order the packaged Onasadya, either from caterers or hotels. Only the minimum dishes are prepared at home, with packaged chips and pickles and kalan giving them enough time to watch TV and celebrating onam with film families came on channels. Onam is the time for NRI Malayalis and Malayalis in other States to wing home to celebrate. In such families there was a better semblance of Onam, with Onakkodis and partly made-to-order sadyas.

Alcohol also douses the urge to venture out, as tipplers prefer to stay at home and relax, enjoying
their drink and watching TV. Alcohol is an inevitable accompaniment to festivals and celebrations. It is the fizz from the bottle that enhances the fizz of festivals and this Onam is no different.
The element of fun, the definition of joy, the visiting and sharing and being together is passes. One wonders when fast food will replace the traditional sadya, when paper plates will displace the banana leaf and when Maveli will be welcomed to the clink of spoon and forks!

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://sparkle-roops.blogspot.com/2008/09/another-awesome-onam-ormakal.html' title='Another Awesome Onam !!! All are dashing to look for new houses/apartments, which is emerging in bangalore or like most other cities never before, may be IT changed it, does it mean IT changed climate too ? yahh at some extent. The environmental eye view of the GARDEN CITY, IT CITY, PUB CITY, SILICON VALLEY OF INDIA BENGALOORU has changed, all because greenery substituted with buildings. The thinning tree cover, contaminated water, garbage in drains and polluting industries that have consumed Bangalore's water bodies, are all indications that environmental disaster is already upon us

. ..and today World Environment Day, commemorated each year on 5 June, is one of the principal vehicles through which UN stimulates worldwide awareness of the environment and enhances political attention and action.

It can be celebrated in many ways, including street rallies, bicycles parades, green concerts, essay and poster competitions in schools, tree planting, recycling efforts, clean-up campaigns and much more. In many countries, this annual event is used to enhance political attention and action.

We celebrated by tree planting with green hands project, let us give something to the coming cohort ….

Silence...

Silence...

Shh... For death is silent and so is birth.

Courtesy: SEG's iOpener- Oracle

Vishu Kaineetam ...

<img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; The elders of the family starting with the grand father or father give away Kaineetam to the younger ones, yes that will evocative in whole life. The Kaineetam consists of coins (now mostly notes) with Konna flowers, rice and the gold from the Uruli. The gold and the rice are returned to the Uruli and touch the eyes with flower. In my childhood, it was a custom to give Kaineetam to all the people associated with the house such as servants, field workers and land-tenants. The principle is the symbolic sharing of the prosperity and wishing happiness for all.
